Killer call with a client? Check! Client is ready to book? Check! Are you pressed for time? Double check!

Then it’s time to create a custom proposal in 5 minutes or less. Yes, your typical proposals shouldn’t take you more than 5 minutes to put together. If it takes you longer than that after the first consult, you’re probably not being too efficient in the process.

Here’s what you need to zip off that custom proposal in under 5 minutes:

  • A comprehensive proposal template for frequently sold services and/or products! Too often, I see people wanting to make custom proposals, but are stuck on the word “custom”. Like, they need to manually enter in each line to make it “custom”… STOP WASTING TIME. Seriously, if you’re a florist, what do ALL your clients need? Probably bouquets, boutonnieres, centerpieces, etc. Create a BASELINE TEMPLATE that’s comprehensive. Remember, it’s always easier to remove an item than add one in! But YES, add in the items you need and want too, but you don’t have to physically retype this for every new proposal.

  • Baseline Project and Product Prices: There’s a baseline price to complete something; just start with that number and know you’ll need to scale up if appropriate. It’s totally awesome to put ranges on your website too or when you’re communicating with clients! Something like, “clients typically spend between X and X for a wedding with X guests;” It gives people an idea of what to expect, but doesn’t lock either of you in if they have double the guest count, but half the typical spend available.

  • An agreement: Client likes it (aka your services and/or products); where do they sign? What do they need to know? I love when proposals have built in agreement locations so the client can zip through the process without hopping around to a million different emails.

  • An easy way to pay process: Does the client know how much to pay? When to pay? And how they can pay (check, credit card, via pennies in a bag sent by a Fabio riding horse, etc)? Tell them exactly the who, what, where and when in this process so there’s no extra red tape for a simple yes.

Done and done, right? Let’s set those templates so you can zip off proposals like a boss (or pro)!
