Why does the prizing puzzle matter?
Your numbers are always evolving.
Your talents and experience are always evolving.
You’re learning. The education you’re soaking in, and your practicing/implementing matters.
You’ve got a team of people to support.
You’ve got bills to pay to run your business.
You’ve got to feed yourself and your family! This isn’t a charity (yes, even charity employees get PAID)!
And you probably want to make more than just enough to get by = business sustainability!
So - you need to decode your own pricing puzzle.
The easiest way I see to make sure you’re profitable and sustainable at each point in your process. Enter: a la carte pricing.
A la carte pricing works best for projects with specifically defined scope (such as an extra graphic design revision, an additional hour for wedding day photography or maybe writing a survey as part of a research project). It also helps you to make sure you’re accurately assessing your time at each phase in a project, so you’re not losing money if you or the client needs to cut short midway through!
So, even if you don’t actually offer a la carte pricing, it’s good to work backwards with your current pricing to make sure you’re profitable and fair to yourself throughout the experience!
